HANOVER, Md. (WUSA9) -- A plan to steal copper from an Anne Arundel County business was thwarted when the thieves getaway car became stuck in the mud.
Police say they responded to a call in the 7200 block of Park Circle Drive in Hanover, Md. at 11:04 p.m. Wednesday for the report of a copper theft. Upon arrival, officers observed a tow truck pulling an older model Ford pick-up truck from a wooded area behind the business.
Investigation revealed that three suspects drove behind the business into a dark, secluded area where they cut their way into a fenced storage area and removed copper cables from generators, police say. When the suspects attempted to drive away from the scene, their vehicle became stuck in the mud.
The suspects called a tow company to remove the car, but were caught by police before the car could be removed.
