KENSINGTON, Md. (WUSA9) -- The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and Montgomery County Police responded to an overturned car in the parking lot of the post office around 9:50 a.m.

The fire department said there were dispatched to the parking lot of the Kensington post office located at 10225 Kensington Parkway.

When deputies arrived at the post office, they found an elderly man stuck in his car, according to authorities. His car was the only vehicle involved in the incident, authorities said.

The man was trapped in his car for about 20 minutes, until rescue teams were able to remove the roof of the car, authorities added.

According to authorities, the man was in the parking lot and for some unknown reason the car hit a wall in front of the post office where the walkway is, which caused the car to flip over.

The man is being taken to a local trauma center, where he will be evaluated for injuries that are considered to be serious but not life- threatening, authorities said.

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue services also noted that a number of car crashes and people slipping and falling on sidewalks have been reported Wednesday.
