SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA9) --Fire officials say a person died in thetwo-alarm fire of a high-rise in Leisure World in Silver Spring on Wednesday afternoon.

According to fire officials, firefighters were dispatched to the15700 block ofInterlachen Drive in Silver Spring at 12:20 p.m. Fire was showing from the 9th floor of the 10-story building when firefighters arrived. Additional firefighters were requested at the scene and the fire was extinguished quickly, say fire officials.

None of the more than 75 firefighters who responded to the scene were injured, say officials.

Officials have not identified or given any details about the person who was killed in the fire. They say investigators are trying to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Police are working on the death investigation.

Leisure World is a private, age-restricted, gatedcommunity. According to its website,approximately 8,500 people live in the community.
