HERNDON, Va. (WUSA9) -- Glinda Salgado was excited when she heard someone won $3 million from a Mega Millions ticket sold at her family's store but it wasn't until later that she found out that she was the winner.
Salgado told the press on Monday that she heard someone had bought the winning ticket at Elden Market & Deli at 1411 Elden Street #103 in Herndon but "I didn't think it was me, so I didn't check my ticket."
Salgado's ticket matched the first five numbers in the March 14 Mega Millions drawing: 7-20-40-54-69. She didn't match the Mega Ball number of 12 so she normally would have won $1 million. However, because she spent an extra dollar for the Megaplier her prize is $3 milllion.
How did she choose her numbers? At a press conference with Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto on Monday Salgado said she picked four numbers what were important two her and picked two more at random.
Otto presented Salgado with the $3 million prize and the store with a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
As for what she is going to do with the $3 million, Salgado shared, "I'm still going to work here. I think the family is just going to pay off...the mortgage, some school loans and some debt," said Salgado.
