GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA9) -- Montgomery County Police Department is investigating an accident that left two people dead in Gaithersburg Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 4:24 a.m. in the 222000 block of Woodfield Road. Officers found an overturned Ford Explorer when they got to the scene.
According to the investigation, a 2003 Ford Explorer was going southbound on Woodfield Road and traveled into the northbound lanes for an unknown reason. The vehicle left the road and hit a tree, authorities said. The vehicle then overturned.
The driver, Thomas Christopher Collier, 32, of Gaithersburg was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, Daniel Lee Byron, 26, of Gaithersburg, was also pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The passenger sitting in the back, Kobi Assaraf, 26, of Rockville, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
