FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA9) -- Two young men have been arrested after shooting at each other on Heather Ridge School property on Wednesday night, say Frederick poli

ce officials.

Police received a call about gunshots in the 1400 block of Taney Avenue at approximately 6:42 p.m. Police say they caught up with one of the men involved in the shooting in the 1000 block of Heather Ridge Drive. The second man they located in the 1400 block of Taney Avenue. He had a gun in his possession, say police.

During their investigation, officers found out that the two men knew each other and had encountered each other on Taney Avenue. At some point, they started firing at each other on Heather Ridge School property, say police. Neither man was shot or injured.

The men have been identified as 16-year-old Alontae Jamera Cottingham and 20-year-old Jordan Cordaire Dawson. Cottingham is charged as an adult due to the charge of first-degree assault, say police. Other charges include reckless endangerment, handgun on person, use of a handgun on school property and possession of a regulated firearm under 21 years of age. Dawson is also charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, use of a handgun in a violent/felony crime and possession of a handgun on school property.
