WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- DC Mayor Vincent Gray accepted final recommendations to update assignment policies and school boundaries on Thursday.
Mayor Gray said that he accepted the recommendations to " continue the tremendous progress we have made in recent years reforming public education in the District".
The boundaries have not been reviewed in more than 40 years, and the Mayor acknowledged that " change like this is never easy" he reiterated that: " it is in the best interest of the District-- and especially our children."
The new boundaries and assignment polices will go into effect for the 2015-1016. Children who are currently enrolled in school will not be required to change schools.
