WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The wreath layings at the Air Force Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery are just some of the somber remembrances that will take place on Memorial Day.
After a concert by the United States Navy Band, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the cemetery.
The wreath laying ceremony at the Air Force Memorial will take place on Monday at 9 a.m. and will feature various activities throughout the event.
The National Memorial Day Parade begins at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 7th Streets, NW. It will proceed west down Constitution, past the White House, ending at 17th Street. The 10th annual National Memorial Day parade will feature veterans from every conflict and several celebrities, including actor Gary Sinise.
Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe will attend the Memorial Day Festival & Parade in Falls Church. Festivities include a Veterans ceremony at the Falls Church Veterans Memorial, a Don Beyer 3K Fun Run, contests, and a lively parade down Park Avenue.
Rockville will hold its 70th annual Memorial Day Parade and in Sterling, there will be a 21 gun salute in honor of the fallen.
Friends, families and veterans will gather at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at 1 p.m. to remember and honor the armed forces.
A commemoration sponsored by the National Park Service and Friends of the National World War II Memorial will take place at the World War II Memorial at 9 a.m. and will feature guest speakers.
The wreath laying kicks of at 10 a.m. at President Lincoln's Cottage. The USSAH National Cemetery will be offering free guided tours on Monday starting at 10:45 a.m. and at 12:30.
