WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9/MPD)--Consider yourself warned! The District is activating 14 new speed cameras in the city beginning Tuesday, May 20. The cameras will be along some major commuter routes in northwest, northeast and southeast DC.

There will also be a new camera monitoring over sized vehicles on a northeast road.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) says there will be a "thirty-day educational phase," which means violators will get warning citations if they are caught driving too fast or in an area where they should not be driving. After the 30-day warning period, consider the ticket real.

According to a MPD news release, "The deployment locations for the Photo Enforcement Units will be sites where speeding or restricted truck traffic has been identified to be a problem."
