WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9)--On Wednesday a bridge in the District will be named after Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Senator Robert F. Kennedy.
In an invitation organizers say the Benning Road Bridge in northeast will be renamed The Ethel Kennedy Bridge "in recognition of Mrs. Kennedy's tireless efforts to engage Washington's youth to restore the Anacostia River and enhance the environment and communities of our Nation's Capital."
The bridge crosses the Anacostia River and Kingman Island. 68.400 vehicles cross the bridge every day says the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).
Because of the Wednesday dedication ceremony, DDOT warns there will be temporary lane and shoulder closures on Benning Road, NE between Oklahoma and Anacostia Avenues. These closures will occur from 1:30pm-4:30pm.
