Police are investigating the death of a 56-year-old DC police officer. The cause of death is not known.
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Police found the body of a D.C. officer in his apartment in SE, D.C. Saturday afternoon.
Police said the body was found in an apartment located in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Avenue in SE.
Authorities said the officer was Johnny Jones ,a 56-year-old veteran of the police force. Authorities say he had to be taken off of duty Monday due to an internal investigation.
There were no signs of trauma, indications of foul play, or obvious unusual circumstances authorities said. The cause and manner of death remain undetermined at this time.
Jones was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner. Autopsy results are pending. The investigation continues, authorities said.
