WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - In a speech about the goal of closing the shelter where Relisha and her family lived in D.C., D.C. Mayor Gray vowed to help homeless families transition into permanent housing and the initiative called 500 families.
More than two dozen families have been placed into homes over a time period of 100 days. Mayor Gray said earlier this year that he wants to also solicit help from those in the real estate business.
The mayor is asking for the city to help provide the services these people need so more families are in homes.
The city is also looking at better ways to provide additional services including counseling and employment assistance.
