WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- According to the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 36, D.C. firefighters will protest a proposal to take two fire trucks out of service on Friday afternoon.
A press release from IAFF Local 36 said the rally will take place at Freedom Plaza in DC at 12:30 p.m.
The union says firefighters are protesting "Fire Chief Kenneth Ellerbe's dangerous proposal to take two fire trucks out of service" in order to "make sure the public is aware that this plan will make it harder for fire fighters to respond quickly to fires and other emergencies in downtown neighborhoods that are growing rapidly."
The protest comes on the same day that District of Columbia Council members are holding a public hearing to consider the plan, the "FEMS Redistribution Resolution of 2014." The roundtable begins at 1 p.m. in the John A. Wilson Building on Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
