WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Tuesday, officials with the District Department of Transportation announced that Director Terry Bellamy and Chief Engineer Ronaldo "Nick" Nicholson will leave DDOT by the end of April.

Mayor Vincent Gray appointed Bellamy as director in July 2011. He was responsible for overseeing the daily operations and led some of DDOT's largest projects, including the 11th Street Bridge Project and the DC Streetcar program, say officials. Before DDOT, Bellamy was the Bureau Chief of Transportation, Engineering and Operations with the Arlington County (Va.) Transportation Department for eight years.

Nicholson joined DDOT as the agency's chief engineer in April 2010, say officials. He also "played an integral role in the 11th Street Bridge project and DC Streetcar," according to officials in a press release on Tuesday. Nicholson previously served as a lead bridge engineer for the design and construction of the Springfield Interchange (the "Mixing Bowl") and as a project engineer for the reconstruction of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

DDOT did not release specifics about why the two were leaving their positions or any details about their future plans.
