WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- On Wednesday, Washington Animal Rescue League welcomed 15 dogs who were rescued from a puppy mill in Arkansas.
According to officials on Tuesday, WARL expected 5 Yorkshire terrier, 2 Pomeranians, 2 Chihuahuas, 1 shih tzu, 4 poodles and 1 schipperke on Wednesday afternoon.
The dogs are among the 121 dogs and more than 60 other animals rescued from a suspected Jefferson County, Ark., puppy mill. Authorities discovered them living in filth and suffering from a lack of basic care, say officials.
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office called The Humane Society of the United States and other area organizations for assistance. Animals are being taken to partner shelters, including the Washington Animal Rescue League.
