WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Elle magazine released its 10 Most Powerful Women in D.C. list and the city's police chief is on it!
According to Elle, the 10 women included on the list offered "an inspiring look at what hard work, determination, and passion can still accomplish."
Metropolitan Police Department Police Chief Cathy Lanier strikes a pose for the list, which notes that she was a former teen mom and high school drop out before she became the District of Columbia's first female police chief in 2007.
Elle notes that Lanier turned down the job at first but has made a big impact as head of the department: "More anonymous tips, decreased violent crime, and the lowest homicide rates since the early 1960s. "
The police department issued this statement on behalf of Chief Lanier about the profile: "My mom always tries to get me to wear lipstick. This will make her happy."
