WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has announced several closures for a series of overhead sign structure safety inspections throughout the District's highway network starting Monday.

DDOT said they will be conducting overhead sign structure safety inspections throughout the District's highway network from Monday, March 10 to Friday, March 14, 2014.

According to DDOT, these activities will require single-lane closures and the work will take place during off-peak hours between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting.

Below are the required lane closures and inspection activities that have been scheduled:

Northbound South Capitol Street SE Near I Street SE Ramp to I-395

In the morning, there will be a right-lane closure of South Capitol Street ramp to I-395 between K Street and I Street SE to the I-695 overpass. In the afternoon, there will be a left-lane closure of South Capitol Street ramp to I-395 between K Street and I Street SE to the I-695 overpass.

Southbound I-295 Approaching Pennsylvania Avenue SE

There will be a right-lane and right-shoulder closure approaching Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

Northbound I-295 Approximately 1 Mile North of the Capital Beltway (I-495)

There will be a left-lane and left-shoulder closure between the Capital Beltway and DC Water headquarters.

Southbound I-295 Approximately 1 Mile North of the Capital Beltway

In the morning, there will be a left-lane and left-shoulder closure between DC Water headquarters and the Capital Beltway (I-495). In the afternoon, there will be a right-lane and right-shoulder closure between in the same area.

Southbound I-395 at 14th Street Bridge

In the morning, there will be a left-lane and left-shoulder closure. In the afternoon, there will be a right-lane closure.

Northbound I-395 at 14th Street Bridge

There will be staggered closures between the Virginia and the District borders.

Northbound I-395 (HOV Lanes) over Potomac River

In the morning, there will be a left-lane and left-shoulder closure. In the afternoon, there will be a right-lane and right-shoulder closure.


Northbound I-395 at Case Memorial Bridge

There will be a left-lane closure between Potomac Park and the 12th Street Expressway.

Southbound I-395 at 4th Street SW

There will be a right-lane closure and right-shoulder closure of southbound I-395 between 3rd Street SW and 6th Street SW.

Southbound I-395 between 4th Street SW and the 9th Street Expressway

There will be a left-lane closure between 4th Street SW and the 9th Street Expressway.

Southbound I-395 between 6th Street SW and L'Enfant Plaza

There will be a right-lane and right-shoulder closure between 6th Street SW and L'Enfant Plaza.

Northbound I-395 approaching Exit 6 for C Street SW and the I-395 Northbound Tunnel

In the morning, there will be a right-lane and right-shoulder closure between 4th Street SW and the I-395 Northbound Tunnel. In the afternoon, there will be a left-lane closure between 4th Street SW and the I-395 Northbound Tunnel.


Northbound I-395 between 7th Street SW and South Capitol Street

There will be a left-lane closure between 7th Street SW and South Capitol Street.

Eastbound I-695 (Southeast / Southwest Freeway) between New Jersey Avenue SE and 3rd Street SE

There will be a right-lane closure between New Jersey Avenue SE and 3rd Street SE.

Eastbound I-695 (Southeast / Southwest Freeway) between New Jersey Avenue SE and 7th Street SE

There will be a left-lane and left-shoulder closure between New Jersey Ave SE and 7th St SE.

Eastbound I-695 (Southeast / Southwest Freeway) between New Jersey Avenue SE and 3rd Street SE

There will be a right-lane closure between New Jersey Avenue SE and 3rd Street SE.

On any day that on-site conditions prohibit closures in the areas noted above, the following alternate inspection schedule is shown below:

Northbound and Southbound I-295 Anacostia Freeway from the Southern District Border to the Northern District Border

Traffic controls will be in place to warn motorists as they approach the areas.

Motorists are advised to stay alert while traveling through these locations and to be observant of the inspection personnel.
