WALDORF, Md. (WUSA9) -- One firefighter was injured by falling timber while battling a barn fire in Charles County on Monday.

About 35 firefighters responded to the scene on Vernon Road and found a tobacco barn and adjacent structure on fire. The barn is completely destroyed.

Officials say there weren't any people or animals in either of the structures.

The injured firefighter is expected to be released from the hospital Monday.

Fire companies from surrounding communities were at the scene. It appeared there were no hydrants and the extra trucks were needed to bring in water.

Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire and an estimate of the damage.
