ARLINGTON (WUSA9) -- An investigation is underway after an Arlington Transit bus rolled backwards and crashed into a tree on Monday night.

According to Arlington County officials, the ART 75 bus was at South Dinwiddie Street and 7th Street when the check engine light came on. The driver was able to park the bus and remove the passengers before the bus rolled backwoards and crashed into a tree. Then, the bus rolled onto its side.

No one was injured, according to officials.

Arlington County officials do not yet know why the check engine light came on. Arlington County's ART operations and maintenance contractor, National Express, is conducting a maintenance and safety investigation.

The 35-foot heavy-duty transit bus is manufactured by North American Bus Industries (NABI). The NABI buses receive routine preventative maintenance and inspections every 6,000 miles, according to county officials.
