ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - Arlington County is moving to crack down on loud, raucous parties and bar crawls with tougher noise control ordinances and fines.
The county board passed legislation Saturday that will go into effect July 1. It bars anyone from "yelling, wailing, shouting or screaming" between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. in Arlington.
The rules are even tougher in busy mixed-use neighborhoods, such as Clarendon and Ballston. Any group of four or more people yelling or screaming that can be heard inside a home between midnight and 9 a.m. will be in violation.
Owners of outdoor bars and cafes that permit such noise can also be charged with civil or criminal violations. Fines have been increased from $25 to at least $100 to $2,500.
