ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Virginia State Police said a 25-year-old woman was hit by a Virginia State Police trooper vehicle early Saturday morning on the exit ramp from I-495 north to Braddock Road.
Police said the accident happened at 2:41 a.m. when a pedestrian suddenly came from the left side of the I-495 north ramp and ran into the travel lane.
Authorities said the trooper swerved and tried to not hit the woman, however the side of the patrol car hit the woman. The trooper stopped and helped the woman until a rescue squad got to the scene.
The victim from Annandale, Va. was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Virginia State Police said they found a man nearby and are trying to determine what caused the woman to run into the travel lane.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
