WASHINGTON (WUSA9)--A disappearing sidewalk was driving WUSA9 viewer Cynthia Outlaw crazy.
She wrote to us about a missing stretch in front of her Kearny Street home in northeast DC, "It was a year ago, July 2013, when I first made a complaint. To this date, there is no date for repair... PLEASE HELP."
Cynthia even sent us a picture.
So on Tuesday, July 29 WUSA9's Driving You Crazy team paid a visit to the trouble spot. The sidewalk simply morphed into a mess of dirt and mud, then back into sidewalk. It looked dangerous, so we called the District Department of Transportation (DDOT).
DDOT spokesman, Reggie Sanders emailed us back saying, "DDOT is aware of the sidewalk issue. Our plan is to complete repairs in that area within a week, if not sooner."
Fast forward to 7:30am on Saturday, August 2--just 4 days after WUSA9's story aired--DDOT was on the job making repairs to the disappearing sidewalk.
"It was only through WUSA9 that got it done with one phone call," Ms. Outlaw said on Saturday standing next to her new sidewalk.
