FRANCONIA, Va. (WUSA9) – Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials responded to a house fire Tuesday at approximately 3 a.m. in Franconia.

Officials say firefighters encountered heavy fire upon arrival at the home in the 5400 block of Hopark Drive, but was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes.

Smoke alarms gave the lone occupant early enough warning to escape with no injuries, however a dog lost its life in the fire, officials say.

Fire investigators say the cause of the fire was an electrical anomaly in the power feed into the home. Damage is estimated at $100,000.
