BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA9) -- Officials had to evacuate people after a reported broken gas line.

It happened around 11:39 a.m. at the 4900 block of St. Elmo Avenue. A construction crew backhoe hit a ¾ inch gas line. As a precautionary measure, officials decided to evacuate various commercial buildings until all repairs were made, police said.

People were allowed back into the buildings by 1:00 p.m. No injuries were reported, police said.
