ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) -- The Arlington County Office of Emergency, along with FEMA Corp and the Volunteer Emergency Support Team handed out a total of 500 flyers Wednesday promoting emergency preparedness for the hurricane season ahead.

Despite the downpour of rain, Arlington County Office of Emergency along with volunteers and FEMA dropped by six coffee shops and bakeries in the morning to remind Arlington citizens to get ready for the summer storms.

The Office of Emergency Management would like to remind citizens to take all precautions and to be prepared for the weather, in light of the tornadoes that hit the south and mid-west and heavy rainfall in the area.

These storms can be quite dangerous and can cause major property damage, the Office of Emergency Management said.
