ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A townhouse fire in Alexandria displaced four people and killed two dogs.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department officials say they responded to a home in the 8500 block of Wyngate Manor Court on Friday, April 11 at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the second and third floors of the front and rear of the end unit townhouse upon arrival, officials say. Most of the damage was contained to the kitchen area, and the home had smoke damage throughout.

The four adults who occupy the residence were not home at the time and are being supported by the Red Cross.
