ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Spring2ACTion, Alexandria's 24-hour online giving day, met its goal of $1 million. Last year, Spring2ACTion raised nearly $660,000 in one day for 97 local nonprofit organizations.
Wednesday, community members were able to donate to one or more of approximately 100 organizations. The minimum donation was $10.
The event has a contest structure that gives local nonprofit organizations the chance to compete for over $30,000 in grants and prizes.
"While our $1,000,000 goal is ambitious, we are hopeful that the momentum created in the past three years, as well as our contest structure that allows fundraising nonprofits to compete for over $30,000 in prizes, will help us raise these funds. Raising $1 million for Alexandria's nonprofits would be of tremendous help to our community," says John Porter, executive director of ACT for Alexandria, in a press release on Wednesday.
Spring2ACTion is hosted by ACT for Alexandria and sponsored by The Bruhn-Morris Family Foundation, the Mason Hirst Foundation, Campbell Kent Fund, Speck-Caudron Investment Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, Washington Forrest Foundation and Give Back Alexandria.
