UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- A Maryland man has pled guilty to kidnapping and second degree sex offense among other charges, officials said.

On Friday, Charles Amofa, 26, of Hyattsville, Md., pled guilty to kidnapping, attempted second degree sex offense, solicitation of a minor and a fourth degree sex offense, for luring two young girls out of a Value Village store and attempting to get them to perform sexual acts, police said.

On July 9, 2012, Amofa approached a six-year old girl in a Value Village store located in Hyattsville, Md. He lead the girl out of the store and behind the building after telling her that the store manager had something for her. He tried to force her inside a home down the street but the victim was able to run away, police said.

On August 6, 2012, a father and his six-year old daughter were shopping at the same store when they became separated from each other. The father contacted authorities immediately after he could not locate her. Police found Amofa with the girl walking in a nearby park. When Police tried to approach him, he tried running while holding on to the girl. The officer was able to arrest Amofa and reunite the girl with his father, police said.

Amofa had told the girl he had a toy outside which he wanted to show her. Once she was outside the store, he picked her up and carried her to the park, placed her on a swing and attempted to force her to perform sexual acts. Amofa's attempts were unsuccessful and he began walking through the park

Amofa is facing a maximum sentence of at least 30 years in prison, police said.
