(WUSA9) -- A man led police on a chase before crashing his vehicle and then trying to run away, say Fairfax County Police. he was caught and later charged with DWI and other offenses.
The incident started on Interstate 495 at 12:23 a.m. Friday when a police officer spotted a car stopped and facing the wrong way. The office thought the driver might need assistance and approached the car but the car then sped away, according to police.
The officer pursued the vehicle onto Old Keene Mill Road and then to Bardu Avenue where it crashed, say police. The driver then tried to run away but was apprehended by other police officers.
The driver was identified as 28-year-old Matthew T. Heislup of Alexandria. He was charged with DWI, speeding to elude police, reckless driving and refusing to submit to breath test.
