WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Police have officially confirmed that a body found in Kenilworth Park on Monday is Kahlil Tatum, who is suspected of abducting 8-year-old missing girl Relisha Rudd.

The Metropolitan Police Department said in a press release on Tuesday morning that 51-year-old Kahlil Malik Tatum of Southeast, Washington was found in the park at approximately 12:30 p.m. Police say he sustained an apparent gunshot wound and did not show any signs of life.

Officers and volunteers continue to search for Relisha Rudd. Metropolitan Police Department Police Chief Cathy Lanier spoke to media at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. She said the search at the Park will continue through tomorrow, and possibly Thursday.

Lanier said the medical exam of Tatum's body reveals that he could have been at the Park anywhere from 36 hours to several days. "It appears he could have been here for several days, but at least 36 hours," she said.

Police are still searching for Relisha. "She could still be alive. That's why we are asking for public help," said Lanier. "All possibilities are still open."

Relisha is described as a black female, 4 feet tall, approximately 70 to 80 pounds with black hair, brown eyes, and a medium complexion. She may be in need of medication.
