LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- Anne Arundel County police say they caught a robbery suspect after he was busted for shoplifting at a Target in Laurel.

According to police, 23-year-old Dave Adams Benissan was arrested four days after robbing a BP gas station in the 3300 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road at gunpoint on March 22. He is accused of entering the gas station's store with a ski mask and handgun and demanding money. Police say once he got that money he fled on foot.

On March 26, employees at a Target store in the 3300 block of Corridor Market Place in Laurel called police regarding a shoplifter. An employee told officers they had detained a suspect who was caught attempting to shoplift. An officer went to speak to the suspect, say police, and immediately recognized the shoes he was wearing as matching the description of the shoes that were worn by a suspect during the robbery of the BP gas station.

Benissan was then arrested for the theft incident and charged with the shoplifting, say police.

After comparing surveillance video from the robbery investigation and the suspect from the shoplifting, police determined that the Benissan's shoes and physical description were identical to the ones worn during the robbery.

Then, a search and seizure warrant executed at Benissan's home revealed located items that linked him to the robbery, including a black pellet handgun and clothing the suspect wore during the robbery, say police.

Benissan was then charged with the armed robbery of the BP gas station.
