Last year, we reported on Pruitt Seafood's second closure where inspectors cited no hot water and no one washing hands. In their first "health hazard" closure order, three years ago, inspectors cited 32 violations.
In their third closure, March 7th, inspectors cited 13 violations including no hot water. "dead/damaged shellfish" reporting the " owner stated that he steams" and sells them, , and no one certified in food protection
When we reviewed Pruitt's Wednesday, a woman who identified herself as the owner's wife showed us her certified food protection card, but seemed surprised when we told her the health department requires hot water at 110 degrees. When we tested the water at Pruitt's, our thermometer showed 77 degrees.
The woman denied cooking damaged and dead shell fish, saying the accusation was about blue crabs that were moving so slowly because of the cold they appeared dead to inspectors.
Pruitt's did pass a re-inspection and now they're back in business.
