RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Emails between the administration of former Gov. Bob McDonnell and a consulting group show that things inside the Virginia executive mansion were in disarray long before an alleged gifts-for-influence scandal broke.

The Associated Press obtained the four-month correspondence from Virginia Commonwealth University's Performance Management Group which was helping first lady Maureen McDonnell deal with staff turnover and discontent.

Bob and Maureen McDonnell face trial in July on charges of accepting more than $165,000 in gifts and loans in exchange for promoting a health company's products.
