NORTHWEST, DC (WUSA9) -- More scrutiny today over the troubled DC Fire and EMS Department.

Chief Kenneth Ellerbe and Council Member Tommy Wells, who's running for mayor, faced off again today. But this time the spotlight is on the troubling number of DC fire fighters allegedly involved in criminal behavior. At least a dozen of them have been arrested in just the past year.

There have been arrests anywhere from domestic violence, drug charges and sex assaults.

Two fire fighters have been arrested this week, including Lt. Henry Dent. He was arrested Tuesday on prescription drug charges. He was arrested for unlawful possession of Oxycodone, and fraudulent and counterfeit prescriptions. He allegedly used these fake prescriptions at various pharmacies from the District, Prince George's, Calvert and St. Mary's Counties to fill prescriptions. On Tuesday, police arrested Dent after he filled one of these alleged fake prescriptions while in DC fire uniform.

"This is not acceptable. I'm very concerned about it. We've seen this in MPD. I want to know there is a sense of urgency in the department and that they are not to violate public trust in personal or work time," says Tommy Well, (D-6).

"One arrest is too many fire fighters have a special trust and go into people's homes and we are working on individuals to make sure they're abiding by the rules and laws," says Paul Quander the Deputy Mayor for Public Safety.
