ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- Officials with The Alexandria Police Department say they have arrested a man for stealing a wallet from a grocery store last month.

According to police, 49-year-old Khalid Bennajma of Arlington is charged in the January 2nd incident that occurred n the 1700 block of Duke Street.

Bennajma is charged with seven counts of felony credit card theft, one count of grand larceny, and one count of credit card fraud.

Police say they are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to call the Det. Mike Whelan of Criminal Investigations Section of the Alexandria Police Department at 703-746-6228.

Police note that they have seen an increase in reports of items stolen from purses while victims were shopping at grocery stores. There have been at least five incidents since December, according to officials.
