WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Officials are investigating an attempted robbery incident in DC in which a United States Postal Service worker was assaulted.
The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. on the block off of Hawaii Avenue and Fort Totten Drive, N.E. Two armed suspects wearing ski masks forced the letter carrier into a car and assaulted him, police said.
This is the third attack on a letter carrier in this area that we know of in the past three months. In November, Tyson Barnette was killed in Prince George's County. In January, a letter carrier was attacked in Alexandria. A 20-year-old and two teens were arrested in connection. In February, a letter carrier was attacked at 50 Hawaii Ave N.E. Attacks nationwide on carriers are extremely rare.
Police are looking for two black males, both described as having medium builds.
The victim has since been released from the hospital.
Police do not know what items, if any, were stolen during the incident and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call Police at 877-876-2455.
