ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- A funeral for a woman killed in Alexandria on Thursday will be held this weekend.
Alexandria police are still trying to determine a motive and find the suspect who fatally shot 59-year-old Ruthanne Lodato at her home on Ridge Road Drive. Police Chief Earl Cook said that solving the crime is "our top priority."
The Everly Wheatley Funeral Home posted plans for Lodato's funeral online on Tuesday. A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 1427 Braddock Road in Alexandria. On Saturday, the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The suspect in Lodato's death is described as an elderly white male, balding with gray hair and a full beard. Police have released a sketch of the suspect.
Alexandria had five murders in the city last year. One of last year's murders is eerily similar to the Lodato murder. In November, Ronald Kirby, a well-known regional transportation planner and expert, was shot and killed in his home, not far from Lodato's home, in what appeared to have been a random killing. That murder remains unsolved.
At this time there is no evidence that Lodato's death is linked to any other crimes, "however, it would be remiss of us not to consider the possibility that it may be similar to other crimes," said Chief Cook on Friday.
