WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- TSA officials at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport stopped a District Heights man who they say was carrying a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag on Monday.

An officer at the X-Ray machine spotted the gun and contacted the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority police, who confiscated the gun and arrested the man on a state weapons charge.

The handgun, a Glock 22, .40 caliber, had a 30-round magazine with 28 rounds in it, plus one round in the gun's chamber, officials say.

Weapons, including firearms, firearm parts and ammunition, are not permitted in carry-on bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
