GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WUSA) - Newly released surveillance video shows what happened when two men used fire extinguishers to rob a Gaithersburg restaurant on Thursday night.

The video shows customers reacting as the men sprayed the El Meson eatery with a plume of fire extinguisher foam. The suspects then grabbed the cash register and ran. The two are still at large.

The owner told WUSA9's Ken Molestina he is thankful there were no injuries but the shock the robbery caused will not soon be forgotten. The staff spent all day Friday cleaning the restaurant and throwing away food that was affected.

The incident took place Thursday night. At about 8:15, police received a report of a robbery at the El Meson Peruvian restaurant at 615 S. Frederick Ave. Two men with fire extinguishers came into the restaurant and sprayed the place and the manager before running off carrying the cash register.

The cash register had about $2,000 in it. The reward for information that leads to identifying and arresting the suspects has been increased from $1,000 to $10, 000.
