WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The National Breast Cancer Foundation has handed out its first ever Andrea Roane Courage Award. It recognizes more than 20 years of Buddy Check 9 educating women and men about the importance of early detection and lifestyle changes to prevent cancer.
The Courage Award recipient is Tammy Gray, a breast cancer survivor and advocate. She's a physical therapist who works with rehab patients at the INOVA Loudoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Leesburg.
BJ's Wholesale Club presented Tammy with a $1,000 gift card, and also donated $410,000 to help provide mammograms to women in need.
