WUSA9 is teaming with Inova to bring you a full year of Family Health topics. This month's focus is weight loss.

WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- It can be tough to manage a healthy lifestyle and for some an extra push is needed to help stay on the right path. We talked to one man who could barely tie his shoes so he joined a program that helped turn his life around.

"My weight crept up over 15 years and I got to the point where I knew I was in bad shape," shared Scott Rhobohn.

He got to a point where he was dangerously overweight. At one point he weighed 380 pounds, and trying diets on his own did not help. So Scott needed an intervention. He enrolled in a 12-week medical weight loss program at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital.

With a team of experts and constant analysis, participants take steps to build a lasting lifestyle.

"This is their opportunity to do an overhaul from a lifestyle standpoint."

And for some it is easier than others, genetics be a factor and even your gender.

"Men do tend to lose weight faster than women, ://: women typically have more body fat."

How do you maintain it at the office, do you bring your food with you?

Scott told us, "I should be better about bringing my food but I don't very often."

So we checked on Scott after he finished the program to see how he is doing. The workplace can be a tough area to maintain good habits. Vending machines offer poor choices and most of the day can involve sitting.

"I work on the fifth floor, so I'll take breaks and walk the stairwells," shared Scott.

He is very picky about his lunch choices and he walks to the locations instead of driving.

Scott hopes never to return to how he was before the weight loss. "Those bad habits are always there ready to come back," said Scott.

He is maintaining. "I am doing pretty good so far," said Scott.
