WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- Wednesday is World Autism Awareness Day. In celebration, Autism Speaks is encouraging others to Light It Up Blue.
Light It Up Blue kicks off Autism Awareness Month and helps raise awareness about autism, say organizers. Some iconic landmarks, such as the Empire State Building, hotels, sporting venues, concert halls, museums, bridges and retail stores will "go blue."

Next month, Montgomery County Police Department and Autism Speaks will host the second annual "Autism Night Out" at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy in Rockville. They hope to provide safety information to loved ones and receive additional information from caregivers about autism.
