WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The American Heart Association is encouraging you to take 30 minutes out of your day and walk on Wednesday.
The organization says National Walking Day is "a great way to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and to get your family, friends and co-workers started on a healthier way of life."
According to the American Heart Association, less than 50 percent of adults get enough daily exercise. Adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week to see the health benefits such as lower blood pressure, better sleep, and more energy, according to the organization.
The American Heart Association is asking people who participate in National Walking Day to show how much fun they are having on their walks by sharing their photos on social media with the hashtags #NationalWalkingDayDC and #AHALaceUp.
