FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Mary Washington Healthcare has eliminated 66 jobs and reduced hours for another 46 workers.
The not-for-profit company also plans to transfer another 157 workers to other jobs within the system.
The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/1qzBGBU ) reports that the company announced the cuts Wednesday. The cuts are part of an effort to reduce expenses by $30 million.
Mary Washington Healthcare operates Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg and Stafford Hospital in Stafford, and employs about 3,400 workers.
Senior vice president Eric Fletcher tells the newspaper that the job cuts mainly were in support fields and were divided between the hospitals.
Fletcher says the hospital's Medicare reimbursements will be reduced by about $31 million this year because of a variety of factors.
