ASHBURN, Va. (WUSA9) -- At approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, Loudoun County officials used Alert Loudoun to notify the public about an unidentified injured man in Ashburn. Approximately two hours later, officials said that family had received the message and the man was identified as a result.

A man in his late 70s or early 80s was found in the area of Gloucester Parkway and Tournament Parkway at approximately 5:50 a.m., according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Deputies believe that he was walking there when he fell and hurt himself. He was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital. He remains hospitalized, according to authorities.

Authorities say the man did not have identification on him so authorities used the Alert Loudoun system to ask for help identifying him.

The family member saw the message and the family reached out to the sheriff's office.

Authorities did not release the name of the man to the public.
