BROOKLYN PARK, Md. (WUSA/WJZ) -- Police say a co-worker is accused of killing a Popeyes employee in Anne Arundel County.

Tuesday morning, police said they arrested 26-year-old Moises Gomez-Castillo of Baltimore and charged him with first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault and theft. Charges related to robbery are pending, say police.

Police say was taken into custody late Monday in the Annapolis area. He remains at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center without bond pending a bail review later Tuesday, according to police.

Police believe the motive for the murder of 47-year-old Luzviminda Monreal was robbery. According to police, evidence suggests that Gomez-Costillo -- an employee off and on at the Ritchie Highway location for approximately seven years -- had planned the robbery based on his knowledge of the management operations. Part of the evidence against Gomez-Castillo includes cash believed to have been removed from the robbery.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the cause of Luzviminda Monreal's death was multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death was homicide.

Anne Arundel County police say the opening manager arrived around 8 a.m. Sunday and found the victim in the back stockroom. Police say she had been beaten to death.

Friends say the victim was a wife and mother who worked two jobs to provide for her family. Those who knew 47-year-old Luzviminda Monreal are nothing less than shocked by her murder.

"I'm very appalled because of the fact she was my neighbor," said Michelle Drakes.

The victim, according to neighbors, lived on the second floor of an apartment building in Laurel with her husband and daughter.

"This is somebody's wife and to find out that my friend had been passed away in that manner…I just hope that this will put a name on her as a human being and you find whoever did this senseless killing," Drakes said.

The Popeyes was closed Monday. Only a cleanup crew was allowed inside.
