WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A former District of Columbia Office of Tax & Revenue employee has been sentenced to jail for stealing more than $114,000 from a retired military member's bank account.
Catyondia Ballard was sentenced to 16 weekends of incarceration, which will be followed by 180 days of home detention and five years of probation, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the District of Columbia. She will also have to pay back the money that she stole from the $114,166 she stole from the victim.
Ballard pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to one count of wire fraud in May.
Officials say Ballard got to know the victim while she worked at the District of Columbia Office of Tax & Revenue. She was able to access the victim's personal biographical and bank account information. She then used that information to wire funds from the victim's bank account directly to her account at a loan servicing company in order to pay off her mortgage without the victim's permission.
