WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- What's 7 feet tall and 164 feet underground? It's a new enormous water main. The WSSC took reporters on a tour of massive steel and cement pipe.
This main is more than five miles long, and runs between Montgomery and Prince George's Counties. It will connect two even bigger mains.
WSSC officials say this new main will help the next time they encounter serious drought conditions.
Engineers say this new pipe is designed to last at least 100 years and help with growing demand for water in the D.C. area.
