(WUSA9) -- Officials with the FBI and Prince George's County Sheriff's Office believe a man wanted for kidnapping his son and fleeing the state of Maryland in May 1996 may be in the Ohio area.
Friday, FBI officials notified media outlets about recent developments regarding Reuben Bennett Blackwell, II on Friday. They recently received information that he may be in Ohio and are now asking for the public's help.
According to FBI officials, Blackwell is wanted for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in Maryland, for kidnapping his then three-year-old son Reuben Bennett Blackwell, III, who may now go by the name "Bennett."
A statement from the FBI says "Blackwell is wanted for abducting his son in May 1996 and obstruction of the lawful exercise of parental custody held by the mother. Blackwell threatened to kill his son at the time of the abduction."

Blackwell was described at the time of his disappearance as a black man, about 6'4" tall, weighing around 270 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair with gray at his temples.
