WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A man will spend more than two years in prison for sneaking into a bedroom and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in D.C., says U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr.
The victim was the man's relative, says Machen. According to government evidence, the man was visiting the home on March 23, 2013 when he snuck up the stairs and into her bedroom. He molested her while was was asleep next to her sister, say authorities. The victim told her mother, which prompted a police investigation.
The man was arrested in October 2013 and pleaded guilty in February 2014 to a charge of attempted second-degree child sexual abuse.
The man was sentenced Monday to 28 months in prison. After he completes his prison term, he will be placed on three years of supervised release. He also must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
